Replacing underground cable new connections, and renewing infrastructure

In 2024, Alectra has major capital projects planned for Aurora, including:

  • $1.3M to replace aging infrastructure including poles, transformers, and switchgear. Modernizing these elements will help minimize disruptions and improve the reliability of Aurora’s energy grid for residential and commercial customers.
  • $3M to replace and rehabilitate underground cables through a process called cable injection. This technology will extend underground cable life, reduce GHG emissions, and help prevent outages. 
  • $2M to connect new customers, accommodating growth and development in Aurora.
Barrie

Replacing underground cable, renewing infrastructure, new connections and upgrading substations

In 2024, Alectra plans to invest in significant capital renewal projects in Barrie, including:

  • $3.6M to replace aging infrastructure including poles, transformers, and switchgear. Modernizing these elements will help minimize disruptions and improve the reliability of Barrie’s energy grid for residential and commercial customers.
  • $3.4M to replace and rehabilitate underground cables through a process called cable injection. This technology will extend underground cable life, reduce GHG emissions, and help prevent outages. 
  • $3.5M to connect new customers accommodating growth and development in Barrie. 
  • $700,000 to modernize substations and deploy new automated devices by replacing outdated controllers with automated switches. Upgrading these substations will expedite restoration efforts in the event of disruptions, further enhancing the resilience of Barrie's grid.
  • $250,000 to deploy net new automated devices enabling swift response to grid disturbances, optimizing performance and minimizing the impact of potential disruptions on the community.
Brampton

Replacing underground cable, renewing infrastructure, new connections and upgrading substations

In 2024, Alectra plans to continue to invest in capital renewal projects across Brampton, including:

  • $9M to replace aging infrastructure including poles, transformers, and switchgear. Modernizing these elements will help minimize disruptions and improve the reliability of Brampton’s energy grid for residential and commercial customers.
  • $1.2M to replace and rehabilitate underground cables through a process called cable injection. This technology will extend underground cable life, reduce GHG emissions, and help prevent outages. 
  • $760,000 to modernize substations and deploy new automated devices by replacing outdated controllers with automated switches. Upgrading these substations will expedite restoration efforts in the event of disruptions, further enhancing the resilience of Brampton’s grid.
  • $12M to connect new customers, accommodating growth and development in Brampton.
  • $1.1M to deploy net new automated devices enabling swift response to grid disturbances, optimizing performance and minimizing the impact of potential disruptions on the community.
Guelph

In 2024, Alectra plans to continue to deliver work focused on asset renewal and customer-driven work by investing:

  • $3.5M to replace aging infrastructure including poles, transformers, and switchgear. Modernizing these elements will help minimize disruptions and improve the reliability of Guelph’s energy grid for residential and commercial customers.
  • $3.6M to connect new customers, accommodating growth and development in Guelph.
Hamilton

Renewing infrastructure, replacing underground cable, new connections and upgrading substations

In 2024, Alectra plans to invest in significant capital renewal projects in Hamilton, including:

  • $10.4M to replace aging infrastructure including poles, transformers, and switchgear. Modernizing these elements will help minimize disruptions and improve the reliability of Hamilton’s energy grid for residential and commercial customers.
  • $960,000 to replace and rehabilitate underground cables through a process called cable injection. This technology will extend underground cable life, reduce GHG emissions, and help prevent outages. 
  • $3.6M to deploy net new automated devices enabling swift response to grid disturbances, optimizing performance and minimizing the impact of potential disruptions on the community.
  • $1.4M to replace and upgrade substations within Hamilton, aiding in faster restoration efforts in the event of disruptions.
  • $6M to connect new customers, accommodating growth and development in Hamilton.
Markham

In 2024, Alectra plans to invest in significant capital renewal projects in Markham, including:

  • $820,000 to replace aging infrastructure including poles, transformers, and switchgear. Modernizing these elements will help minimize disruptions and improve the reliability of Markham’s energy grid for residential and commercial customers.
  • $5.3M to replace and rehabilitate underground cables through a process called cable injection. This technology will extend underground cable life, reduce GHG emissions, and help prevent outages. 
  • $1.2M to replace and upgrade stations within Markham.
  • $240,000 to deploy net new automated devices enabling swift response to grid disturbances, minimizing the impact of potential disruptions on the community.
  • $5.4M to connect new customers, accommodating growth and development in Markham.
Mississauga

Renewing infrastructure, replacing underground cable, new connections and upgrading substations

In 2024, Alectra plans to deliver significant capital renewal projects in Mississauga by investing:

  • $9.1M to replace aging infrastructure including poles, transformers, and switchgear. Modernizing these elements will help minimize disruptions and improve the reliability of Mississauga’s energy grid for residential and commercial customers.
  • $16.1M to replace and rehabilitate underground cables through a process called cable injection. This technology will extend underground cable life, reduce GHG emissions, and help prevent outages. 
  • $1.8M to deploy net new automated devices enabling swift response to grid disturbances, minimizing the impact of potential disruptions on the community.
  • $2.8M to build new substations as well as renew and upgrade existing substations, aiding in faster restoration efforts in the event of disruptions in Mississauga.
  • $13.3M to connect new customers to accommodate Mississauga’s growing community.
Richmond Hill

  • $223,100 to deploy net new automated devices enabling swift response to grid disturbances, optimizing performance and minimizing the impact of potential disruptions on the community.
  • $2.3M to connect new customers to accommodate Richmond Hill’s growing community.
St. Catharines

  • $3.4M to connect new customers to accommodate St. Catharine’s growing community.
Vaughan

In 2024, Alectra plans to continue to invest in significant capital renewal projects in Vaughan, including:

  • $7.5M to replace aging infrastructure including poles, transformers, and switchgear. Modernizing these elements will help minimize disruptions and improve the reliability of Vaughan’s energy grid for residential and commercial customers.
  • $800,000 to deploy net new automated devices enabling swift response to grid disturbances, optimizing performance and minimizing the impact of potential disruptions on the community.
  • $6.1M to connect new customers to accommodate Vaughan’s growing community.
  • $6M to build new substation in Vaughan 
  • $1.3M upgrades to communications infrastructure.
