We have now reached our maximum number of installations for the current phase of the REM pilot program. We have a wait list for customers who would be eligible for an installation in the event of cancelations. If you’d like to register now, you’ll be placed on our wait list and contacted as spots become available. All registrations will be booked on a first come, first serve basis.
For information about the Residential Energy Management program, eligibility and what to expect as a participant, see the questions below.
Participants need to be a residential Alectra Utilities (formerly PowerStream) customer in good standing, live in a house that has internet and central air conditioning, and must be approved by Rogers credit operations during the application.
If you are a current Smart Home Monitoring customer or an employee of a Canadian telecommunications provider, you are unfortunately not eligible for this pilot. If you move during the pilot period and cease to be a Alectra Utilities customer, you will not be able to take the system with you.
The trial began in June 2015. Customers will be able to participate in the trial for a minimum of ten months.
This product is being offered at no cost to the participant for the duration of the pilot.
Please note that your participation in this pilot will be reflected on your Rogers bill with a $0 charge.
The technician will install all the pieces of hardware that come with your REM kit in your home.
NOTE: Not all of the hardware has been integrated yet to support the full functionality of REM. Currently, your sensors are not integrated to control your HVAC, but it's coming soon!
Customized profile for your home
REM wants to begin your energy savings experience by first understanding you and your home better. You will be asked to enter some basic information about your home through some set up questions. You also get to customize your preferences on how efficient you want your home to be, as well as select your desired home temperatures to suit your comfort levels.
Programmable schedule with in-home and away modes
While customizing your profile, one of the steps in the set up process will allow you to program your week's schedule and set your preferred temperatures. REM will assist you during the process to select the temperature that will help you save the most.
Integration of door and motion sensors
REM detects your presence throughout the day with its motion sensors and can easily override your programmed schedule to adjust the settings when you are at home (i.e. never compromise on your comfort).
Advanced Smart learning for home detection
The SmartShift feature is a unique algorithm that can learn from your daily temperature preferences, and when combined with the city's weather data, REM optimizes to save you the most.
View whole home energy data
Your daily energy data is used by REM to tell you how you perform compared to your neighbours. Along with this you can view your estimated monthly bill, your peak usage hours, and how much REM is helping you save.
Monthly energy consumption reports
Personalized reports with energy savings tips will allow you to assess your performance at the end of each month. REM will provide you with tips on how to save more as well as exclusive incentives to help meet your target.
After the pilot period ends, you may keep the equipment that was installed in your home or choose to have a technician come to pick it up. You will also have the option of upgrading to the Smart Home Monitoring Solution offered by Rogers for a monthly fee.
There is absolutely not commitment associated with this pilot. You can cancel your participation in the pilot at any time without incurring any charges.
You will be required to provide feedback through occasional surveys and/or focus groups related to the service over the course of the pilot.
The installation will take anywhere from 90 minutes to 3 hours.
In order to provide you with the most accurate analysis of your electricity usage, you will be asked to provide some basic information of your household’s characteristics during the onboarding process. This information will be combined with your smart meter data to provide with the most up-to-date feedback on your electricity usage.
Alectra Utilities will securely provide Rogers with hourly energy consumption data from your smart meter. Real meter data provides better analytics and more accurate information on how you use your energy. Your energy consumption data is associated to a unique id that is created to mask your identify, your address, and any other personal information. Using your unique id, we identify each customer and transfer the data associated to your smart meter in a secure file format. We then use this data to provide analytics that you see on the My Energy Use tab of the Alectra Utilities app.
