Green Button is a North America-wide initiative being adopted by many utilities as part of an ongoing effort to provide their customers with better access to their energy usage information. Green Button allows you to download your detailed energy usage in a secure, easy-to-use machine-readable format. You can share this file with companies who are developing innovative tools to help you understand and analyze your energy consumption.
Green Button is part of Ontario’s efforts to encourage energy conservation and help people save on electricity costs. It gives you greater control over your energy data, allowing you to access and share your electricity consumption data in a standardized, secure manner. Companies are starting to develop innovative tools and software that visualize and analyze energy consumption around the Green Button standard so that you can use your data in the way that works best for you – without compromising your confidential information.
Your Alectra Utilities (formerly PowerStream) account must be registered in My Account and be on Time-of-Use billing.
- Log into My Account or create an online account login.
- In My Account, click the Meter Data tab, then click on My Time-of-Use Data - Download.
- Click the Green Button icon to download your most recent 30-day hourly-usage history.
- Use the calendars to select up to thirteen months of hourly or daily usage history.
- Save the XML file on your computer or device to share your Green Button data with third-party applications, products, services and solutions.
- To view your Green Button data, click the Download Style Sheet icon and save the XSLT file in the same folder on your computer as the XML file in step 4 above.
- Open the XML file to view your Green Button data in your Internet browser.
Your Green Button information is downloaded in a standard XML file format, so you can easily export your data to other applications, tools or software. You can also continue to use the spreadsheet-friendly XLS and CSV download options, which are better options for directly reviewing the data.
My Account maintains a history of up to 24 months of billing, consumption and transaction data. This includes Green Button and Time-of-Use data, where you can download up to 13 months of data at one time.
Green Button follows privacy and security best practices, so your information stays safe. In addition, it is only available to you through your secure online account. Nobody will be able to access your data unless you choose to share this file with them. Before you share any of your energy usage information, find out how it will be used and if it will be secure.
You will have the ability to analyze your own detailed data, tracking usage patterns that may provide insights to help you save. You can also safely share it with other tools, such as mobile or web applications, to visualize your energy consumption in an innovative way.
