Frequently Asked Questions:
You may have some questions about how monthly billing will impact you. The Alectra Utilities (formerly PowerStream) Customer Service team has answered some of the questions you may have below.
The Ontario Energy Board, our industry regulator, has mandated that all electric utilities in the province move to monthly billing beginning in 2017.
Monthly billing offers customers smaller, more manageable payments and better aligns with other monthly expenses, making it easier for you to manage your budget.
A monthly bill is also a better tool to help you understand your consumption habits, because it provides more timely information about electricity use, which makes the bill more effective in helping you manage your electricity costs.
Your bill will look exactly the same, but there are a few things you may notice:
- Bill payment is now due monthly; check the top right corner of your bill for the due date.
- The meter reading and the usage history reflect approximately 30 days.
- Your electricity charges cover a period of one month instead of two.
Markham and Vaughan residential customers will continue to see water and wastewater charges on their bill every two months, and we will continue to visit your property to read your water meter every two months. There is no change to your water and wastewater billing frequency. When the water and wastewater charges are on your bill, the water usage graph will be displayed; when these charges are not on your bill, the graph will be suppressed.
Customers started receiving their last bi-monthly bill as early as mid-December. Depending on your normal billing cycle, once you have received a bi-monthly bill after mid-December, the next month you will receive a monthly bill. Your account will be on the monthly schedule from that point forward.
Here are two examples:
- December 20, 2016 bi-monthly bill, January 20th monthly bill, February 20th monthly bill, etc.
- February 5, 2017 bi-monthly bill, March 5th monthly bill, April 5th monthly bill, etc.
If you pay by pre-authorized payment, you will see a payment withdrawn from your account each month on the due date of the bill.
