Go Green
Go Green

In addition to the company's ongoing efforts to deliver energy management programs to customers, Alectra Utilities (formerly PowerStream) is also recognized as being a leader in adopting green practices to help protect the environment.

Environmental stewardship is present in all aspects of our business. Here are some of our Go Green initiatives:

Electric Vehicles (EVs) & Charging Stations:

As the number of EVs across Ontario increases, Alectra Utilities is working to provide public charging facilities to support customer needs, including a free level 3 EV charging station at our head office in Vaughan and a DC fast charger at the Markham Civic Centre.

Employee Vanpool Program:

This program helps to eliminate greenhouse gases every year by taking employee personal vehicles off the roads during morning and afternoon commutes, and replacing them with commuter vans. The vanpool is just one part of our award-winning Smart Commute programs.

LEED Gold Certified Facilities:

Alectra Utilities has constructed two energy-efficient and environmentally-friendly ‘Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design’ (LEED®) Gold facilities: our office in Vaughan and South Operations Centre in Markham received LEED Gold certification in September 2008 and February 2011 respectively.

LEED Certified Office in Vaughan

Vaughan Office Solar Data:

Our Vaughan office Microgrid Demonstration Project operates independently, transitions on and off the provincial grid as needed, and even feeds electricity back to the provincial electricity distribution system. It also powers our Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) level 2 EV chargers.

Earth Hour:

Alectra Utilities is a proud supporter of this symbolic, global event and participates through community events, turning off the lights at its own work locations, and reporting on municipal power consumption reduction totals in its service territory during Earth Hour each year.

Environmental Policy Statement:

Alectra Utilities is committed to environmental stewardship in all aspects of our business. As one of the largest local electricity distribution companies in Ontario, we accept the responsibility and accountability for the environmental impacts of our operations in providing service to residential and business customers in our service territory.
