Here is a program which literally takes the “Go Green with PowerStream” campaign to the streets.

As part of company’s commitment to implement strategies and initiatives to help protect the environment, an Employee Vanpool Program has been developed that eliminates over 200 tonnes of greenhouse gases each year by taking 44 employee personal vehicles off the roads during morning and afternoon commutes and replacing them with six vans.

PowerStream currently has six vanpools in operation – two provide transportation for employees from the Barrie area to travel to the company’s head office in Vaughan, three van travel from the Barrie area making stops along the way to the South Operations Centre in Markham and the sixth van travels from Markham to Vaughan.

The program’s cost and coordination are shared by PowerStream and the employees participating in each vanpool.

In addition to protecting the environment, the Employee Vanpool Program also provides several other positive benefits. For the participating employee, it helps to reduce commuting costs and stress, which benefits PowerStream through increased employee productivity and retention.

In between the morning and afternoon commutes the vans are made available for the company to use for work-related activities. When vans are removed as vehicles in the vanpool program, they will be retained by PowerStream as a corporate asset.
