The use of the ‘Go Green with PowerStream’ slogan not only provides an overarching theme for the company’s implementation of green initiatives but also serves as a call to action for many of PowerStream’s key stakeholders including employees, suppliers and customers. In addition to the company's ongoing efforts to deliver energy management programs to customers within its service territory, PowerStream is also recognized by the Ministry of the Environment as being one of Ontario's Environmental Leaders in adopting green practices to help protect the environment. A testament to PowerStream’s commitment to going green was the construction of an energy-efficient and environmentally-friendly head office facility, which officially opened early in 2008. In September of that year, it became the first ‘office building’ in York Region to achieve LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) gold certification from the Canada Green Building Council. Another 'Go Green with PowerStream' initiative, implemented by the company to reduce its impact on the environment, is an Employee Vanpool Program. In addition to providing a number of benefits for participating staff, this program also currently helps to eliminate 170 tonnes of greenhouse gases each year by taking 27 employee personal vehicles off the roads during morning and afternoon commutes, and replacing them with vans. PowerStream also has in place a corporate Environmental Policy Statement which sets out the company’s stewardship and accountabilities in this area. |
