PowerStream Inc. is an electricity distributor that is licensed and rate regulated by the Ontario Energy Board (OEB) under the Ontario Energy Board Act, 1998. PowerStream holds Electricity Distribution Licence No. ED-2004-0420. On December 15, 2008 the OEB approved (File No. EB-2008-0335) the amalgamation of PowerStream Inc. and Barrie Hydro Distribution Inc. The companies merged on January 1, 2009, but PowerStream continues to operate two separate rate zones corresponding to the preamalgamation PowerStream Inc. service area and the preamalgamation Barrie Hydro Distribution Inc. service area, as approved by the OEB in its Decision on the amalgamation. The PowerStream South rate zone (York Region Service Area) includes the communities of Aurora, Markham, Richmond Hill and Vaughan. The PowerStream North rate zone (Barrie/Simcoe County Service Area) includes the communities of Alliston, Barrie, Beeton, Bradford West Gwillimbury, Penetanguishene, Thornton and Tottenham. The communities in the PowerStream North rate zone were previously served by Barrie Hydro Distribution Inc. (Barrie Hydro). PowerStream’s rates and services are regulated by the OEB, an independent provincial government agency. At any time, Powerstream Inc. may have one or more applications before the OEB. The most recent PowerStream’s applications and submissions are listed below.
As the second largest electricity distributor in Ontario, PowerStream actively participates in various industry consultations, including OEB proceedings, consultations with Ontario Power Authority, Electricity Distributors Association, Coalition of Large Distributors, Independent Electricity System Operator and other industry stakeholders. |
